World of Tanks -- leKpz M41 90 mm - Tank ReviewThe turret traverse was electrical, with a manual backup. At the rear of the turret bustle top was located a mushroom-shaped fume extractor.
Inside the bustle were located the radios. On the bustle back was fixed a large storage bin, to add balance to the main gun. The turret sides counted fasteners for canvas and additional storage, including fuel jerrycans.
The turret front counted handles for an easier access and the mantlet was usually covered by a tarpaulin to prevent rain and snow infiltration inside the crew compartment.
The driver could see through four vision blocks, three facing the front arc, and one the right-rear, plus a removable hatch periscope.
The gun lock was used for transportation. Unlike the Sherman tank the gun lock was at the rear and offset to the left side of the tank, not in the middle like on most tanks.
This was to enable the driver to get out of his hatch. If the gun lock at the rear of the tank was in the middle the rear turret bustle would block the hatch.
Notice no front hull machine gun was added to the front of the M41 Walker Bulldog. This was to enable additional ammunition to be stored in the front right-hand side of the tank.
The crew had to rely on the coaxial cal. A large caliber machine gun tripod was often attached to the rear of the turret bustle box for use by the crew on the ground behind cover.
The production at Cadillac started in , replacing gradually the M24 Chaffee. The production will last until , when replacement by the M Sheridan became effective.
Until then, and its first deployment in Korea, many modifications occurred, later turned into production variants.
The M41A1 was the first production variant, in The electric traverse system was replaced by a hydraulic traverse, the extra room allowed to increase the ammunition storage from 57 to 65 rounds.
The M41A2 appeared in , with an engine upgrade, the fuel injected Continental AOS replacing the ancient carburetor fuel system. The M42 Duster was the anti-aircraft variant, with a twin Bofors 40 mm guns turret replacing the turret.
The last Danish tanks were retired in They had been upgraded as the M41 DK-1 which included a complete overhaul: Spain also operated M41s in the s, in a modernized version.
Exports comprised also nations of the Middle East, like Jordan and Lebanon. In Asia-Pacific, New Zealand acquired 10 tanks.
The Philippines 7 , Japan , and Thailand also used the type now all retired. The M41D is the local upgrade developed for the Marine Corps and Army, comprising a new gun, modern FCS, thermal sights and new computerized targeting systems, a Detroit Diesel 8VT diesel engine, side skirts and reactive armor.
Taiwan also developed the experimental Type 64 with a new hp diesel engine and coaxial GMPG machine gun. Brazil was also a proficient user of the type tanks , and developed local upgrades, the M41B and M41C.
The first one comprised a new FCS, new Belgian Cockerill 90 mm main gun, a DS14 Scania diesel, Groton electric generator, smoke grenade launchers, and armored side skirts.
They are all retired now or have been exported. The M41 was a real improvement over the M24 Chaffee, it was even more mobile and agile, well-armed to deal with lighter armor than MBTs and ww2-era tanks, with an accurate and fully stabilized main gun.
Standard Gun Reload Times Nominal: The changes mainly related to the 76 mm M32 gun, which was re-bored to 90 mm and shortened by mm. This tank takes some of the best attributes from all the other lights at tier and combines them all to create a very versatile light tank that can load its HEAT shell and go after some of the bigger tanks in the game, or can load up its HEP and chase down other lights, or even load AP and perform a sniping role.
However, this tank does have its limitations as your HEP shell will almost never work against the better armored light tanks. In the end, this tank is a premium vehicle and can more than compete with its non-premium counterparts while making a decent profit as long as you keep from firing too much HEAT.
A viable strategy when using the M41 GF is to initially load your HEP shell and do some aggressive active spotting to farm some initial spots and spotting damage.
Then adapt to more of a flanking medium, spotting where needed and working to ensure your team maintains vision and health superiority.
As a result, the M 41 90 was better in some aspects such as penetration on both standard and premium ammunition and DPM but is severely outclassed in terms of mobility.
Additionally, the M41 Walker Bulldog got 2 more degrees of gun depression when using the single-shot guns. This made the T41E1 one of the first American tanks to be designed around a preexisting engine type, rather than being built first and then adopting a suitable engine.
The Army placed orders for the T41 circa August Truman at Aberdeen Proving Ground in February Serial production was delayed by technical difficulties stemming from the decision to incorporate an integral rangefinder directly into the steel turret.
The plant, employing , delivered the first production M41 Walker Bulldog in March By March over M41s had already been manufactured. The M41A1 was later superseded by the M41A2 and M41A3, which had the advantage of greater ammunition stowage, and considerably simplified gun and turret systems.
Lawton Collins , then Army Chief of Staff , successfully argued for the existing purchase orders to be filled. With the introduction of increasingly well-armored Soviet main battle tanks , the M41 was no longer perceived as powerful enough for frontline service, and it was replaced by the much lighter and more heavily armed Sheridan during the late s.
When the M41 entered production, it was not considered economical to simply manufacture a single tank chassis and hull. The US Army wanted the M41 series to include various supporting vehicles built using the same chassis, engine, tracks and as many as other associated automotive components as possible to simplify logistics.
At one point American Defense Secretary Robert McNamara proposed using the US Navy vessels within the vicinity to move another eight M41s and their associated ammunition to support the exiles; however, without sufficient supplies or air support Brigade was unable to hold its positions against repeated Cuban armored attacks and was overwhelmed.
In mid, as part of a greater effort to introduce more modern equipment to the ARVN, the Military Assistance Command proposed that the South Vietnamese armored corps be increased by five tank squadrons.
During the early s, Argentina received five M41s on ostensibly permanent loan from the United States. Taylor suggested the New Zealander M41s be deployed there in support of allied operations.
During the mid to late s, the purported presence of M41 Walker Bulldog tanks in the South African Defence Force SADF aroused international interest, especially when press reports suggested they had been deployed as part of Operation Savannah , a controversial South African military incursion into Angola.
As a voluntary arms embargo had been imposed on South Africa due to the passage of United Nations Security Council Resolution , Gervasi was invited to testify on this claim before the US House of Representatives , which had a subcommittee on African relations.
As late as the Angolan government continued to make unsubstantiated claims that US-supplied M41s were being used during South African raids into Angola.
The M41 Walker Bulldog was the first postwar tank to be adopted by the Bundeswehr after its formation in The hull of the M41 is of welded steel construction, with the driving compartment located at the front of the tank and to the left.
Standard M41 turrets are of cast and welded steel construction and fitted with a turret basket. The M41 has a very distinctive, well sloped glacis plate with a horizontal top, and may also be readily identified by its large exhaust pipes on each side of the upper hull rear.
Both Denmark and the Republic of China Taiwan purchased an undisclosed amount of the new ammunition. This section is about operators of the M41 Walker light tank.
For operators of the APC derivative, see M75 armored personnel carrier. For operators of the self-propelled artillery derivative, see M44 self propelled howitzer , and for operators of the anti-aircraft platform, see M42 Duster.

Willkommen bei der Wargaming. Its hard to overtake some mediums eg progetto in a t I think people exaggerate its performance because it has high pen HE, which is the same with the Ru and Rhm Pzw.
It does have really good view range. Given that it used to be matched as a tier 9 and received no nerfs to bring it back in line, it manages to be one of the most powerful lights in the game.
As a light tank it perhaps does not excel due to the size, lack of mobility, and poor camo, but it is an exceptional tier 8 damage dealer hampered only by its low HP pool.
Rather have smaller profile and good acceleration and handling. The point of firepower on a light is exactly the same as firepower on anything Light tanks need to use their guns to counter out other lights, and punish stronger tanks from superior positions.
All light tanks need to do this to succeed at a high level. The fun thing about the M41 90 is that it gets a better gun for this than any tier 8 light, or medium.
It has solid alpha for the tier, excellent DPM, solid gun handling, and even reasonable penetration. It actually still compares somewhat favorably to a few of the tier 9 lights.
You may be utterly fucking useless as a bottom tier blackdog, but you are less utterly fucking useless than any other tier 8 light possible exceptions are the T92 and ELC because camo , and any tier 8 medium.
I agree with Taugrim, from the standpoint of looking at all tier 8 Lights. The DPM is great but you lose a bit in the process.
That being said, comparing the Black Dog to the HWK 12, you see how far ahead the m41 90 pulls ahead. It has the greater combat potential.
BUT, as Taugrim was saying, if you just want a tier 8 Light, there are better options. You forgot great dpm. It can be used as a medium if needed thanks to it.
Only Object has better dpm from tier 8 meds. For me Blackdog is amazing combination of firepower and spotting capabilities which are much better then I though.
In fact I have more assist in it then in T92 which should be better spotting tank. That is a difference in 72 vs 60 kph top speed. Way better then all other tier 8 lights with exception of Hawk 12, which has the same.
I think that few years ago it had 85 mm with HEAT pen but then they nerfed it by 10 mm. Will watch your review after school and make an decision after.
Thanks for the advice. Honestly the 41 90 is one of my top five favorite premium tanks, right in there with the E25 and AMX 13 The only LTs with armor worth mentioning are Russian.
It is sluggish in acceleration compared to every since similar-tiered light tank. This is especially egregious considering the one that has the exact same chassis as it, the M41 Bulldog, is fucking night and day.
I think the acceleration is made up by the top speed. This means that it can easily overtake a t92 on longer distances likeban early spotting location.
I realise the t92 is slow but you get the idea. This makes for me that the m41 is a cut above most t8 lights. I feel elc and t92 are on the same level due to size and camo.
I would even say that the m41 is even better then most t8 mediums. So people expecting the epitome of light tank play, scouting the enemies while keeping your gun quiet That is indeed why i love the T92, its a pure scout and the gun handling makes it enjoyable to fire on the move.
The issue with scouting is that not every map and team deployment allows for scouting. This makes the M41 so good: The changes mainly related to the 76 mm M32 gun, which was re-bored to 90 mm and shortened by mm.
